Ironman Week 9 Notes

Video ClipFor the Love of the Game (Kevin Costner first pitch against the Yankees)

We live a life filled with a lot of voices. And we got to decide what goes on in our lives.

Review from last week:

Proverbs 4:23 – Watch over your heart with all diligence, For from it flow the springs of life.

Proverbs 27:19 – As water reflects a face, so a man’s heart reflects the man.

Today’s Question:

How can we watch over our hearts in a practical way so that good things can flow from it? You better watch over your heart because something is going to come out of it.

Watch Over = Guard it, Give it Intentional Attention, Protect it.

A lot of us live as if we are waiting for someone to feed us…we need self-leadership.

Diligence = Conscience effort, Perseverance, Really Matters, Importance, Focus.

Diligence involves focus action to what is valued…it is not haphazard, it is not mediocre attention, it’s in the zone. So what really matters?

To watch over our hearts in a practical way we need focused attention.

V.I.M – Vision Intention Means

  • Vision – Getting a picture for your goals, so that they go somewhere.
  • Intention – A compelling picture will give you the motivation to move forward.
  • Means – Taking the necessary steps to move forward in a focused manner.

How do you envision your self in 6 months, 1 year, 5 years, etc.? How to live out Proverbs 4:23 better…you need to think with the Lord what is the picture He’s creating for you.

Values We Need In Our Life To Create That Picture With God:

  • Dose of God’s truth (Psalm 1)…read it, memorize it, spend time in it.
  • Think Time (Solitude in Our Life)…giving yourself time to let the dust settle.
  • Confession…allows you to win early and stay in the light.
  • Community…you need brothers, you need accountability, you need people to dream about the picture with.
  • Service…seeing your life as a conduit that gives God to other people.

The greatest gift that we have in life is Christ…but He had us first. What is the greatest conviction in your heart? With Christ we have a say.
